Life Update//DID WE QUIT BLOGGING FOREVER?! Holiday posts?

It has been a while since our last post here on CBB. No, we did not quit the blog nor have no interest in blogging. We still love writing posts and miss it. Since school has started, we have been so busy with all of the homework and tests it’s too hard to keep up with tuesday and thursday posting.

Although, we will be posting weekly again!

We have made the decision that Lei and I will both post on Saturday. Every Saturday, 2 separate posts will be coming in. On Sunday we post our together posts and the new “week”. We can’t wait to get back to blogging!

In honor of our first week back at it, this week will be….

Thanksgiving week!!

Expect a post from both Lei and Tay on Saturday, a group post on Sunday, and a weeks update on Sunday as well.

I hope you are as happy as we are about the decision!

FYI: Our official Instagram is @ChicBirdBlog. We follow back!

Our official Pinterest is @ChicBirdBlog. We also follow back!

Sandals: Blue Sandals

Outfit #2: (Lei’s Outfit)

Hairstyle #1: (Tay’s Hairstyle)

Pull Through Braid

Video Tutorial:

Step 1: Gather all of your hair into a high ponytail and secure it with an elastic.

Step 2: Separate the hair in the ponytail into 2 even sections: a top and a bottom section.

Step 3: Take the top section and put another elastic about an inch down the ponytail (top section only, leave bottom section alone for now)

Step 4: Take the 1 inch space in between the ponytail elastic and the elastic we just put on, and put your fingers through the middle to create space.

Step 5: Pull all of the bottom section through the hole we just made.

Step 6: Now the bottom has become the top, so go about an inch down on just the new top section and put an elastic on.

Step 7: Make a hole in the new space, and pull the new bottom through the top so that they switch places and create a “braid” looking stitch.

Step 8: Continue all the way down your head until you reach the bottom, but leave about and inch and a half of space. Tie off with an elastic and if you want to be festive, tie it with an american flag bandana!

Step 9: The next step is optional, but it makes it look way better. Pancake it out by pulling on both sides of each stitch a little bit to flatten it out and make it looser. Now you’re done!

Hairstyle #2: (Lei’s Hairstyle)

Beachy Waves

For straight hair:

  1. Start off with freshly washed hair that you’ve let air dry, and apply a texturizing spray.
  2. Using a medium sized curling iron, take 2-inch sections of hair and wrap it around the barrel, instead of curling up the wand. Take messy sections because you don’t want to make it look too perfect!
  3. After the curls cool, finger comb and spritz in more texturizing spray or hairspray if needed.

For wavy hair:

  1. Start with day -old locks for a little extra texture.
  2. If you want get tousled waves fresh out of the shower, apply a curl cream, put your hair in a loose bun, let it dry, then touch up any flat sections with a large barrel curling iron.
  3. Flip your head upside down, spray all over with a texturizing spray, and lightly scrunch the curls with your hands.

For curly hair:

  1. Blow out your hair with a round brush to straighten your hair a bit before you add the waves. Apply an anti-frizz serum before your blow dryer, so summer humidity won’t ruin your look.
  2. Then, use a medium sized curling iron to create loose waves.
  3. Add a surf spray for texture.

Makeup Look #1: (Tay’s Makeup)

  1. Start by applying a white eyeshadow to your whole eyelid.
  2. You are gonna divide your eye into 3 sections, and on the outer 1/3 of your eyelid you are gonna put a blue eyeshadow.
  3. On the middle 1/3, you will keep it white.
  4. On the inner 1/3, you will use red.
  5. Move the blue a little into your crease to help the colors blend, and soften the lines a little bit with a blending brush.
  6. Add a thick black wing using black liquid eyeliner to your lash line, and add a thick layer of clear sparkly eyeliner just above it.
  7. Also take the clear sparkly eyeliner, and apply it to your lower lash line.
  8. Apply your craziest most volumizing mascara to your top lashes.
  9. Next, add a light pink blush and highlight the tops of your cheekbones with your favorite highlighter.
  10. Finish with red lips and you’re done!

Makeup Look #2: (Lei’s Makeup)

  1. Start by applying a white eyeshadow to your whole eyelid.
  2. Cover your eyelid with silver eyeshadow.
  3. Apply blue shadow to the outer corner of your eyelid and crease, blending as you go.
  4. Apply more shadow to your crease, this time with a blue a shade darker than you just did and blend.
  5. Apply a sparkly white shadow to your inner corner.
  6. Apply black liquid eyeliner and flick it out at the end.
  7. Go over that with sparkly gold eyeliner.
  8. Apply more black eyeliner to your bottom lashline, finishing halfway across.
  9. Apply a lot of mascara on your top lashes.
  10. Apply  a peachy blush to your apples of your cheeks blending up.
  11. Apply a bronzer to your cheekbones.
  12. Use blue, red and white face paint to paint little stars between your eyes and cheeks. If you don’t have face paint, you can use very pigmented eyeshadow.
  13. Apply a red lip liner and a red liquid lipstick. I love the Kylie Lip Kit in Mary Jo K.

Those are our 4th of July complete outfits, hairstyles and makeup looks! Remember we’ll be gone for 2 weeks but a happy 4th of July from Chic Bird Blog!

How to get the perfect summer tan!

Hey guys! It’s lei! This is my first time posting in a while! My summer post for this week is how to get a tan! Here are my all natural tips for getting an amazing tan:

  1. My first advice is, before you even do anything, EXFOLIATE!
It’s important to rub away the dead skin cells or any loose, rough skin and oils before you go out in the sun.
If you don’t do this, there’s a chance you will end up with an uneven tan!
  2. The second most important thing you should know is to NEVER ever go sunbathing with makeup on. I know some people who go to the beach in full party makeup and it’s just ridiculous. Not only do you look like a clown, but you’re damaging your skin too!
I love makeup but please. Not for tanning. Try using lip balm instead, and make sure you remove any excess makeup. You don’t want to have spots on your face and your skin to look blotchy for the rest of your life, do you?
    It’s really really important.
  3. Try products with carotene and caffeine in them, they enchance tanning and the result will be an even deeper, richer tan!
There are a lot of tanning lotions on the market that contain both of these ingredients! You can also get beta-carotene in pill forms, but to be honest, I’ve never tried those and don’t plan to either! A great substitute is to drink carrot juice, you can mix apple, kiwi, any sort of fruit into it if you don’t like the taste, it’s also nice if you add some ginger too! Carrot’s contain carotene which boost and intensify tanning!
  4. 4. Glitter tanning oil/lotion. Trust me it’s amazing! The glitter attracts the sun rays, so your tan will be even better, I guarantee you! In some countries, you can get tanning lotions and oils which already have the glitter in them, but if you can’t find any, don’t worry! You can just mix your own glitter in it! It’s easy as that! I suggest you use fine glitter, almost like powder, and not chunky glitter. The glitter will add a gorgeous sparkle to your skin. Not only will it make your tan better, it will also provide you with an instant glow!
  5.  Cocoa butter works wonders!
Yes, I know that people bake  with cocoa butter, but believe me, it also works wonders when it comes to sunbaking!
Once you’ve achieved a nice tan, you can start using it to intensify your tan even more, and be even more bronzed!
You can get it at a pharmacy or your local grocery store, you can ask for it melted, or in a bar, which looks just like soap. Just rub it on your skin and you’re done! It will make it super smooth and moisturize your skin along with giving you a better tan!
  6. Tan near the water, or in the water on a mattress.
If you go in the water every 20 minutes or so, you’ll tan much easier! Water reflects and intensifies the sun rays!
  7. The last, but most important one. If your skin is sensitive, you’re fair skinned, or you just want protection against harmful UVB rays, please don’t forget to use sunscreen! I am personally very fair, so I get burned very easily! Even if you have olive or darker skin tones it’s a good idea to wear it just in case and to prevent skin cancer!

Happy tanning!

DIY 4th of July Popsicles!

Hey guys, It’s Tay! Happy summer week! 4th of July is this Monday, so I am doing DIY 4th of July layered popsicles! These are inspired by bomb pops (the red, white, and blue layered popsicles you see at grocery stores)

above is one of the Popsicles I Made!

  • Popsicle Molds
  • Blue Drink (Preferably blue Gatorade, but any drink that is super bright blue works perfectly)
  • Red Drink (Preferably  red Gatorade, but any drink that is super bright red works perfectly)
  • White/Clear Drink (I used coconut water, but any drink that is clear colored works perfectly, but I do not recommend using water because it will taste weird with the other drinks)
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Popsicle Sticks, if your mold doesn’t come with them

Step 1: Start by taking your popsicle mold. If your mold comes with popsicle sticks, take them out of the mold before adding the drinks.

Step 2: take your red drink and fill the popsicle molds 1/3 of the way full. Make sure you have it as close as possible to 1/2 full. Then, add a layer of plastic wrap tightly on top of the molds and poke the popsicle sticks through the plastic wrap and center them.  Put these in the freezer for 45 minutes-1 hour or until the red drink solidifies/freezes.

Step 3: Take the molds out of the freezer and take off the plastic wrap, but leave the sticks in. Then, add the clear/white drink into the molds to make the mold 2/3 full. Cover with plastic wrap again and put into freezer for 45 minutes-1 hour or until the red drink solidifies/freezes.

Step 4: Repeat step 3 with the blue drink but fill the molds the rest of the way up. Do not cover back up with plastic wrap before putting back in, and leave them in the freezer for at least 3 hours.

Step 5: Serve and enjoy!

Thanks for reading and Happy early 4th of July! Ps: I actually made these pops this morning and they are AMAZING!
